Fassett is 15 km² tucked against Montebello: more than 5 km of Ottawa River shoreline to the south, fields and farms in the middle, wooded hills to the north. The name comes from Jacob Sloat Fassett, an American businessman who ran the Haskell Lumber Company. It was on the railway station by 1905 and became the municipality's name in 1951.
The village lives off traffic. Route 148 runs through it, Highway 50 is right there, and the ferry crosses to Lefaivre on the Ontario side. Boaters tie up at the municipal dock, which is free.
For residents it's a busy little village: the seniors' club has around 300 members, and there's a kids' Christmas party, a family day and a winter carnival.
