The township is named after a region of Scotland and the map still shows it: Gore United church, Gore Baptist church, MacGillivray cemetery, montée du Gore. Lochaber became a municipality in 1855. Thurso split off in 1886, Lochaber-Partie-Ouest in 1891.

What's left is 70 km² of farmland crossed by Routes 148 and 317 and the Blanche River, plus a slice of Plaisance national park. It's farm country for real. The township even published a treasure map of its producers: grass-fed beef, bison, lamb, eggs, honey, maple syrup, berries, pottery.

Cyclists on the Route verte get a rest stop on the 148 with a bike rack, a bike-camping platform and a dry toilet built by a local artist. If you're moving here and want a few chickens or a hobby farm, nobody will blink.
